Welcome to the World of Music at Anderton Park Primary School
At APS, we believe in the power of music to transform lives and bring people together. Our music curriculum is as unique as our school, custom-designed to ensure that every pupil is given the chance to engage in all four key domains of music: singing, listening, performing, and musicianship. Here, music isn’t just a subject — it’s a vibrant, living experience that builds connections, celebrates diversity, and fosters creativity.
A Rich, Diverse Musical Journey
Every lesson at APS invites our pupils to explore a vast and exciting world of music from around the globe. They’ll immerse themselves in music from different cultures, genres, and traditions — from the rhythms of Africa to classical masterpieces, contemporary hits, and everything in between. Whether it’s listening to inspiring compositions or singing with their classmates, our pupils will experience music in ways that open their minds and spark their imagination.
Instrumental Excellence and Performance
Our pupils don’t just listen to music — they become music-makers. Every child will have the chance to learn an instrument, whether that’s through class lessons or one-on-one sessions with specialist tutors. From Year 4 onwards, pupils are introduced to an instrument, and by Year 5 and 6, they can continue their musical journey in small groups, deepening their skills and growing in confidence as performers.
We believe in the power of performance, which is why we organise end-of-term Talent Shows where every pupil is given the stage to showcase their talents to the whole school. There’s no better way to celebrate growth, creativity, and confidence than standing proud and performing for your peers.
A Dedicated Space for Music
Our specialised music room is a treasure trove of instruments, designed to inspire and nurture our pupils’ musical abilities. The space is a sanctuary for our budding musicians — a place where they can explore, practice, and discover the joy of making music. Whether playing in small groups or taking part in individual lessons, our students have everything they need to grow as musicians.
Music and Connection: Building Relationships Through Sound
At APS, we see music as more than just a subject — it’s a way to bring our community closer together. Our music curriculum draws upon the Spiritual, Moral, Social, and Cultural (SMSC) aspects of music, fostering connections not only between pupils but also with the wider world. We use music to nurture empathy, build friendships, and create a sense of belonging among our students.
Once-in-a-Lifetime Opportunities
We pride ourselves on our excellent links with external services, offering pupils once-in-a-lifetime opportunities that elevate their musical experience. From performances at the Symphony Hall to collaborations with professional musicians and songwriters, our pupils are regularly invited to work with experts from around the world. These experiences are invaluable, shaping their love for music and expanding their horizons.
Banderton Park: Our Internal Music Service
Our internal music service, Banderton Park, is one of the jewels of APS. Pupils of all ages have the chance to join a band, learn an instrument, and develop their musicianship while building lasting friendships. Whether performing to their peers or working together to create beautiful music, Banderton Park fosters not only musical excellence but also confidence, self-esteem, and teamwork.
Tailored for Every Learner
We believe that music should be accessible to everyone. That’s why we’ve designed tailor-made music curriculums for our EYFS pupils and for those in The Hub — our Special Educational Needs provision. Every child, regardless of their background or ability, has the opportunity to engage with music in ways that suit their individual needs.
Extra-Curricular Musical Fun
Beyond the classroom, our extra-curricular clubs provide even more ways for pupils to explore their musical talents. Our Recorder Club and Singing Club are popular among our pupils, offering a space for those who love to sing and play to come together and share their passion for music.
Music and the Rights of the Child
Our music curriculum is also firmly rooted in the principles of the UNICEF Rights of the Child, ensuring that every child has the right to engage in artistic activities and to develop their full potential through creative expression.
At APS, music is at the heart of everything we do. It connects us, inspires us, and empowers us to be the best versions of ourselves. We can’t wait to welcome you to our musical community!
