Sunday 3rd January

3 January 2021 (by admin)

Dear parents and families,

What strange and scary times we are in, that I should have to write to you on a Sunday evening.

As you know we have a training day for staff which is going ahead as planned so no children in tomorrow.

Children were due to return to school on Tuesday but as you know, the new strain of Coronavirus is spreading like wildfire, hospitals are full and we cannot guarantee safety for everyone. We are not scientists or virus experts and cannot therefore accurately decide what is best to do.

We want all children back of course; Anderton Park is best when full of enthusiastic children and staff. And at the same time, we are all very worried about the new strain of COVID. The local infection rates are up to 643/100,000 which is 6 x what it was at the start of the pandemic.

Many staff have been advised by their unions not to work in schools but to work from home. Currently, we have 16 teachers working from home from Tuesday which means most children will not be able to come to school and will learn online.

School will be open for the following children:

Children with one key worker parent who cannot be looked after by someone else

Children with EHCP

Children who are vulnerable or who you are worried about

Children who do not have a computer at home

Children who are supported by a Family Support Worker or Social worker

Anyone else who you feel will be better in school than at home.

Please email school office@anderton.bham.sch.uk or phone 0121 464 1581 or pop in and see us tomorrow to let us know whether you want a place at school for the next couple of weeks please.

It is difficult to be exact about our opening plans as things may change overnight from the Government, the Local Authority or from us if we do not have enough staff in to teach your children safely.

It is a very difficult time for everyone. Secondary schools are ALL closed, primary schools in London and the South East are too, and in Wales and Scotland. I am so sorry for all the confusion. It is not a great way to start a new year but teachers and staff will make sure children have a brilliant education online, with set work and with paper work too.

Education does not stop, it just changes. We are all still Anderton Park, love learning, reading, knowledge and love seeing our teachers on screen.

There will be staff in school every day so please carry on talking to us and together we will continue to learn.

Very best wishes,

Mrs Hewitt-Clarkson
